In Oregon if you have a vehicle registered in your name you are REQUIRED to keep it insured AT ALL TIMES. That means if your car catches on fire and the engine falls out and it has no wheels and you leave it in your garage or drive way IT STILL MUST BE INSURED. The only way around this is to go to the DMV and stand in line for hours and submit a "statement", wich the DMV gets to decided wich ones you are required to fill out, saying that that vehicle will not be driven and a bunch of other horse sh*t questsions. At wich point they decided if it is then ok to give you permission to not have it insured. Snowmobiles and antique show cars, no messy paperwork needed.
Ok I find this to be extremely stupid. The DMV knows you have insurance on your vehicle because its required when you register the damn thing in the first place, and every time you register from there on out(around every 1-3 years depending on the luck of the draw...yeah dont get me started on that too). I might also point out that the DMV and police can check if you have insurance with the click of a button.
Another stupid Oregon law. The DMV is REQUIRED to randomly issue check ups in the mail on if you have insurance. You get one of these babies in the mail and you must respond with proof of insurance within 30 days or they suspend your license. I would like to point out also that they have no requirement of telling you your license is suspended. They just change the status in the computer and bam, you're suspended. You'll find out next time you are given a citation but not before. Surprise!
So check this out.
Enter my roomate Brooks. He has a 2004 car that he still owes the bank on so he is required to relativly expensive insurance on it at all times. Well that is reasonable because technically the bank owns it and they dont want you wrecking thier car without means to pay for it right...ok.
Well recently we moved to a new house. Guess what...here comes the random insurance check in the mail. Does he have insurance? Of course...he has to. He has to every time he registers the car, gets tags, and the bank ensures he has insurance on it at all times. Well due to the move he didnt get the letter. Bam license suspended.
So now my roomate has a $400+ ticket, a suspended license and a court date. All because he didnt get a piece of mail. Completely and obviously insured and following the laws and yet he is currently majorly f*#ked. He cant drive to work and the court date isnt for 3 weeks.
Doesnt this seem like a huge scam to you to feed insurance companies money and the state money from issueing citations? Loads of paper work so you can apply to not insure a car that could have no wheels and no engine sitting in your garage?
This message is braught to you by
"American people taking up the ass by thier own goverment every day."
I guess we have to pay for goverment bail outs and bombs some how.
I didnt get to sleep until....uh...lets just say I stayed up early.....yeah. It was a pretty wild night, but in a good way.
I think 2009 is going to be a good year, the economy is still down but other than that I have every thing else to look forward to.
On a side note: There is a Tom Cruise advertisement on here including a link to his web page. Does he actually need to put up advertisements to get jobs or repair his public opinion? Weird.
Anyhow to all my LJ friends "HAPPY NEW YEARRRRR!!"
The first five people to comment in this post get to request a sketch of a character of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their drawing ability level. If you absolutely can't draw, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to offer drabbles or icons or something instead.
Right ok, I had to post that because I wanted Iben to draw me a sketch of Gabe and Tyco :) Anyhow, life has been going well for me for the most part. I keep glancing at Mt.Hood on the drive home and notice it's getting more and more snow! I can't wait to get some snowboarding in.
In other news, the projector is going to be here Friday, so I expect a full weekend of blu-ray movie watching. I ordered a James Bond collection containing 6 movies in high def, I am really excited to sit down and have a drink and watch old school James Bond. Also it turns out in the movie case there are 4 tickets to the new James Bond movie I can turn in at the movie theater, hell yeah!
However, there are a few things that leave me feeling good. Helping friends out, exercising(yeah I need a lot more of that) and doing chores around the house. There is something about doing chores at YOUR home that makes it so much better. I remeber as a kid being assigned chores and it was like, "ahhhh man I hate weeding the flower beds!"
But then one day you grow up and buy a house and suddenly pulling weeds isnt so bad. Hell, it's kind of nice. Maybe its because its your place now, maybe its because I can appreciate the little things in life a little more now that I am older.
Speaking of getting older, it sounds like my grandpa, good ol grandpa willie has taken a turn for the worse and the out look is not very good. He has faught cancer off and on for years and years and it looks like this time he might loose the fight. The odd thing is that I don't really feel sad about it. I mean don't get me wrong, I love the guy he is an amazing person, a hard worker, and always has been a role model for a lot of people in the family, but he's over 80 and had a great life.
I mean when my friend back in high school, Kevin Beyer, died....now THAT was sad. He had cancer and he also faught it for years and finally died of it at age 17 or 18. Such a bright future cut short. But grandpa has had a long fulfilling life, made tons of friends and his body is just plan worn out. Seems to me like thats the way I want to go ya know? I mean I'm gonna miss him for sure. Some times he stops by my work on the way home and says hi to everyone with a big ol grin on his face, shaking every one's hands and giving out hugs.
I don't know its a strange feeling. I guess I feel like everyone is going to die eventually, and he's had a hell of a ride...seems lucky to me, I should hope to have such a satisfying life. I see myself at his funeral with a big smiling thinking " You will be dearly missed gramps, save a hug for me in the after life"
I was listening to Science Friday on NPR the other day and they were talking about world over population, and having kids, or too many kids rather, and it kinda got me thinking. I am 30 years old, I should probubly get more serious about having a family and 2.1 kids or whatever, and yet I know way too many parents that went and got married and had kids, or had kids wich caused them to get married more often than not, and then thier relationship epic failed. I admit, if there is one thing in my life that I could avoid at all costs, it would be that exact scenario. At the same time, it seems like if I didnt have kids I would be missing out on some of lifes great experiences.
Of course the real trick is finding the "right person", atleast that is what most of us are taught. I guess that whole arranged marrage thing works for Indians, maybe they know something we dont. Since Danicia or Theresa probubly wont marry me I'll have to keep looking. Tee Hee.
On another note, it looks like I'll be finalizing purchasing a house pretty soon. My brother and I decided to go in together on a big house, figuring we can split the payments and should one of us eventually want leave we will sell it and make a profit(the houseing market cant drop forever right?). I always hated throwing away money on rent. Anyhow it's kinda creepy knowing you're gonna owe the bank nearly 300,000$ Assuming everything goes through as planned I'll try to post some pics of our new place on my web page at : http://www.lojo.us
Peace out
Well I'm off camping starting Thursday evening after work. We are heading up to Southern Washington to Alder Lake. Looks like we are taking two cars, some of us leaving Thursday night, some leaving Friday morning.
I just love camping. Everything is better camping, the food, the beer, the air.....its just better. Oh, another cool thing is our camp site is near a nice lake and very close to some of the states coolest waterfalls. So we well be doing a lot of swimming and probubly some hiking in to see waterfalls to help work off some of those s'mores calories.
Anyhow I will be putting pics up on my webpage at http://www.lojo.us after the trip, and you can see all of us having fun and maybe some waterfall/nature stuff too.
Peace out.
So tonight two cool things happened.
Event #1: A friend and I decided we were going to resurrect the old Beer Pong table. Way back when I had a bunch of roomates in a big house(the college days) we made a big Beer Pong table and threw parties and it was soooooo much fun. So yeah we baught a really nice 4X8(trimmed it to 38"X4') of oak, sanded it down until it was soft as a baby's bottom, and sketched out a nice design for it. Tomorrow I will paint up the stripes and then we will stain it a nice golden oak color(colour). Think, old school Hawiian surf board style. I am also putting some anti-slip circles where the beer cups go and such. Pics soon to come.
Event #2: We went to the opening of "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D". It was awesome! Yeah, maybe the acting wasn't the best. Yes, the storyline was a bit meh. However, I can't help it, I just love to watch those 3-D movies. I watch every little details, flowers in the background, rocks on the ground, huge dinosaurs chasing screaming Brendon Fraisers, all of it. There were some really fantastic views and some good action scenes too. Well worth the money if you are a 3-D movie fan.
Well I am about to dock from transfering nails and oak from Havana to Santo Domingo, so I'll log for now. Keep checking back, I plan to keep my blog updated as often as possible.
<3,
LoJo
Well I had a good weekend that consisted of mostly playing Pirates of the Burning Sea and playing Guitar Hero 3 with friends, and BBQ. For the most part it was a pretty lazy weekend, i should have done more but oh well, I guess I'll just play catch up a little bit this week.
Wich brings me to my next point.
I hate doing laundry. Seriously though, any other chore around the house is fine but for whatever reason I hate folding cloths. I guess maybe its because I go through them so fast its like "damn I JUST washed this...ughh". I guess that means my life is pretty good if the only thing have to complain about is doing laundry several times a week.
I am still working on the website, added a few more pictures from my last trip to Thailand, hopefully I'll get some more stuff in there as time passes and I get more cool photos. I definitely will be taking photos at PAX wich is only 53 days away! That should be tons of fun, I am excited to hang out with everyone up in Seattle and meet new people. I am hoping to get a media pass for the event, which reminds me I need to hurry up and get ahold of the PAX media lady again.
Oh I am goin camping in Washington 18th-21st of this month. Anyone is welcome to swing by, roast some marshmallows, have a drink, plays some games, whatever. We plan to hike to a waterfall or two, probably do some swimming, and just relax and have fun.
Well that is all the news I have for today.
